Purchase or renovate your home with staycations in mind. Buying a home with a luxury jet tub and basement bar may make staying at home for your vacation time a more enticing idea. Spend the money on a nice home once, and you never have to dream about the nice hotel suite with a hot tub. I myself have had a jet tub installed in my last three homes for this reason.
3. If you have older children and teens, go to Cuba, particularly in the off season. I love going to Cuba personally. The sea food is amazing, and I recently swam with the dolphins.
Yes it will be hotter than you may be used to, however it will be cheap. It is still possible to get an all inclusive trip to cuba including flights, food and alcohol for around $500 per person. Hopefully that will leave you some extra money to save up for your house down payment or other goal.

4. Set a goal for every month about how much money you want to save. Make a plan that can realistically achieve that goal. Use discipline to prevent yourself from splurging. Obviously this is easier said than done, but as a father myself, I think I have to include this advice also.
